Roman Kemp delivers 'emotional' goodbye to Capital Breakfast

It looks as though Capital Radio has suffered yet another blow as Will Njobvu confirmed he was leaving the station hours after Roman Kemp's exit. Taking to social media, the star revealed his final show will be this Saturday.

Sharing a series of images and videos on Instagram, Will said: “As they say in showbiz, it’s a WRAP! After 4 and a half amazing years - I’ve taken the tough decision to leave my Saturday morning show on Capital XTRA to focus on new opportunities elsewhere in broadcast & digital media.”

The host told his followers that his love of radio first started 12 years ago when he joined his student station back in 2012. After that, he went on to hospital radio in Harrow and a local station in Hertfordshire.

In a poignant tribute to his time at Capital XTRA, he revealed it was a blessing to land this as his first job in commercial radio. He added: “This job kept my spirits high during lockdown, through Black Lives Matter & I got so comfortable with my listeners that I decided to open up about my sexuality for the first time ever on air (even though we know the closet I was in was see through & made of glass).

“But it was an amazing moment! Not only has this job helped me grow as a person, it’s helped me grow as a broadcaster.”

People will be able to listen to his last show on Saturday 30 March from 9am to 1pm.

Will concluded: “A big thanks to everyone who helped get me on this station and of course thanks to the listeners."

His final show comes at the same time long-running presenter Roman Kemp also made the decision to leave.

Earlier this week, the 31-year-old gave an emotional send-off after spending a decade at the station.

It comes as Radio 1 star Jordan North prepares to take over Roman’s role.

At the time of the announcement, Roman admitted it wasn’t an easy decision for him to make.

During his final show, he took a moment to tribute to the listeners and his colleagues, including mum-to-be Sian Welby.

Speaking about Sian, he touched on her recent pregnancy announcement as he detailed how close they are.

Roman continued: “I can't wait for you to have your baby, you've got a brand new life coming into this world.

“I can't wait to be there for you when that happens and I'm so grateful you made me godfather."
