Ethel Alexander Giles, 96, of 807 Edwards died Tuesday at Lenoir Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Giles was director of public welfare in Hoke County for 35 years. She was a graduate of Johns Hopkins School of Nursing and a graduate of UNC-Chapel Hill where she received a social science degree. Graveside service will be 3 p.m.

today, Westview Cemetery. Survivors include a son, Chris H. of Kinston; sisters, Mrs. Parks of Morganton, Mrs. Louise Spivey of Asheville; five grandchildren.

MILLER BEAUFORT Edith Neilsen Miller, 67, of Beaufort, died at Carteret General Hospital Monday, June 1. Service is to be graveside at Carteret Memorial Gardens 11 a.m. Wednesday. The Rev. Robert Hammond of North River United Methodist Church will officiate the service.

Marshall "Slim" Woolard, 73, of 146 Culpepper Avenue, Petersburg, died June 2, 1992, in Southside Regional Medical Center after a lengthy illness. He was born in Pitt County, N.C. and was a son of the late George Marshall and Rosa Lee Jones Woolard.

Mr. Woolard served with the U.S. Army during WWII and was a retired welder. Surviving are his wife, Dollie Woolard; sisters, Zadie Everette of Tarboro, N.C. and Dot Adams of North Harlowe, brothers, JacK Woolard of Williamston, N.C.

and Horace Woolard of Tarboro, N.C.; eight stepchildren, Bessie Taylor, Margaret Howlett, Kay Smith, Judy Clutter, all of Hopewell, Peggy Peaden of George, Jamie Jarman of Clayton, N.C., Lyman Little of Emporia and Geraldine Lewis of Orlando, several nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be conducted at 3. p.m. Thursday, June 7th in the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss Son Funeral Homes.

NUNNERY ELIZABETHTOWN Lawrence Edwin Nunnery, 69, died Monday in UNC Hospitals. He was the son of the late Henry Roland and Mattie Johnson Nunnery and was preceded in death by his sister, Evelyn Nunnery Guyton.

Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday at Wesleys Chapel United Methodist Church. The Rev. Bobby Tyson and Rev. Francis Daniel will be officiating.

He was born July 23, 1917 in Northampton County; was a chief petty officer in the U.S. Navy serving 28: years retiring in 1959; served on tine USS New Orleans when it was cornmissioned and 11 years on the MISS Dyess; served in the Pacific during WWII; served 12 years on the board of directors for the Newport Developmental Center for Handicapped Children; six years as town commissioner for the town of Newport; 18 years on the board of elections in Carteret County, 15 years as its chairman; was a' dedicated member of St. James United Methodist Church serving on the administrative board, pastoral committee, and numerous other church committees; was a member of the Newport Masonic Lodge, the American Legion Post, Newport Moose Lodge Raymond was also active in the Newport Chapter of the Boys Scouts of American. Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, St.
