Update: Tornado with half-dollar-sized hail in Southwest Pa. Saturday (2024)

On Saturday at 5:19 p.m. the National Weather Service issued an updated tornado warning in effect until 5:30 p.m. for Allegheny, Beaver and Washington counties.

Half-dollar-sized hail (1.25 inches) is expected with the incoming storm.

"At 5:19 p.m., a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was located near Imperial, or 7 miles west of Moon Township, moving southeast at 20 mph," says the weather service. "Flying debris will be dangerous to those caught without shelter. Mobile homes will be damaged or destroyed. Damage to roofs, windows, and vehicles will occur. Tree damage is likely."

Locations impacted by the warning include Frankfort Springs, Hanover Township, Raccoon Creek State Park and Pittsburgh International Airport.

The weather service comments, "Take cover now! Move to a basem*nt or an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building. Avoid windows. If you are outdoors, in a mobile home, or in a vehicle, move to the closest substantial shelter and protect yourself from flying debris.
